Hepatitis B virus suface gene encodes small (HBs,) middle (MHBs) and large (LHBs) surface protein. These proteins are translated form distinct start condons, but share a common reading frame and stop codon. HBs has 226 amino acids, a major viral envelope component.
HBsAg is an important parameter to establish a identification of hepatitis B disease in the clinic and to monitor antiviral treatment. Whole length HBS surfac antigen of HBV subtype adw2 was expressed from E.coli containing 226 amino acids, with molecular weight about 22 kDa with a 6 x his tag linked at its C-terminal.
