- Neuroligin2 is encoded by the gene NLGN2. Neuroligin2 is a transmembrane scaffolding protein and cell adhesion molecule. It is involved in cell-cell interactions in neurons and in other cell types. It is expressed in many tissues, including the brain where it is located at the postysynaptic membrane and is involved in regulation of inhibitory synapses, synapse formation and synaptic transmission. Diseases associated with this gene include Pervasive Developmental Disorder and Autism.
