- Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) or PHM27 is encoded by the gene VIP and belongs to the glucagon family. VIP is a secreted peptide hormone and binds to the VIP receptors VIP R1 and VIP R2. Signaling through the receptors, VIP is involved diverse processes including vasodilation, regulation of blood pressure, stimulates myocardial contractility and neurotransmission. VIP is produced in many tissues including gut, pancreas, heart and brain. Diseases associated with this gene include Vipoma and Vasomotor Rhinitis.
