It is localized to human chromosome 4q35.1, is expressed in both the nuclei and cytoplasm of cells, and is a novel substrate for polo-like kinase (PLK1). Phosphorylation by PLK1 regulates the PLK1-MLF1 interaction and localization to the kinetochores promoting proper chromosome segregation.
