KRT17 (Keratin 17) is a Protein Coding gene. This gene encodes the type I intermediate filament chain keratin 17, expressed in the nail bed, hair follicle, sebaceous glands, and other epidermal appendages. KRT17 was shown to be an important molecular marker for predicting the carcinogenesis, progression, and prognosis of various cancer types. KRT17 is a possible biomarker in gastric cancer-promoting tumor growth, motility, and invasion, and suggest that KRT17 can be a valuable molecular target for the development of anti-gastric cancer-specific therapies. KRT17 mRNA, a gene linked to hamster Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) in another brush cytology study, was also enriched in OSCC versus nonmalignant lesions.
