Description: Cytochrome P450 3A(CYP3A) belongs to the cytochrome P450 family and the enzymes constitute an important detoxification system that contributes to primary metabolism of more than half of all prescribed medications.CYP3A expression determines impairment of drug absorption and efficient systemic clearance in a tissue-specific manner(PMID:17975676).This antibody is specific to CYP3A4.
Function: Cytochromes P450 are a group of heme-thiolate monooxygenases. In liver microsomes, this enzyme is involved in an NADPH-dependent electron transport pathway. It performs a variety of oxidation reactions (e.g. caffeine 8-oxidation, omeprazole sulphoxidation, midazolam 1'-hydroxylation and midazolam 4-hydroxylation) of structurally unrelated compounds, including steroids, fatty acids, and xenobiotics. Acts as a 1, 8-cineole 2-exo-monooxygenase. The enzyme also hydroxylates etoposide (PubMed:11159812). Catalyzes 4-beta-hydroxylation of cholesterol. May catalyze 25-hydroxylation of cholesterol in vitro (PubMed:21576599).
Post-translational Modifications: Polyubiquitinated in the presence of AMFR and UBE2G1 and also STUB1/CHIP and UBE2D1 (in vitro).
Similarity: Belongs to the cytochrome P450 family.
