MARK2 (EMK1), a MARK type protein kinase, has been implicated in regulating polarity, cell cycle progression, and microtubule dynamics. Specifically, it is reported to phosphorylate a MAP4-related protein in vitro. EMK(-/-) mice display growth retardation and immune cell dysfunction, and disease development in these animals has suggested that loss of EMK may contribute to autoimmune disease in mammals.
