Deletion of ROR alpha in mice causes severe impairment in the differentiation of cerebellar Purkinje neurons and results in the 'staggerer' phenotype. ROR alpha has been suggested as a potential target in the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases, including atherosclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
