- Ceroid-lipofuscinosis neuronal protein 6 or CLN6 is encoded by the gene CLN6 and is a member of the CLN protein family. CLN6 is thought to be involved in intracellular trafficking and lysosomal function. Mutations in a CLN related gene can result in neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses or Batten disease, a group of rare, often fatal lysosomal storage diseases. CLN is thought to be involved in the degradation of proteins in lysosomes. CLN6 is widely expressed in tissues and found in the endoplasmic reticulum.
