ASIC1 acts as an acid sensing proton gated sodium channel and is thought to play a role in learning, pain transduction, memory development, and fear conditioning. ASIC1 is widely expressed in the central and peripheral nervous system. Diseases associated with ASIC1 include spatial learning and memory capability problems and Frozen Shoulder.
