- Peroxisomal Biogenesis Factor 6 is encoded by the gene PEX6. PEX6 is a member of the AAA ATPase family. PEX6 is a predominantly cytoplasmic protein, which plays a direct role in peroxisomal protein import and is required for PTS1 receptor activity. PEX6 is expressed in the retina. Diseases associated with PEX6 include Peroxisome Biogenesis Disorder 4A and Heimler Syndrome 2.
