- Neuronal Cell Adhesion Molecule is encoded by the gene NRCAM. NRCAM is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, L1/neurofascin/NgCAM family. NRCAM is an ankyrin-binding protein that is involved in neuron-neuron adhesion and promotes directional signaling during axonal cone growth. NRCAM also may play a role in cell-cell communication via signalling from its intracellular domain to the actin cytoskeleton during directional cell migration. NRCAM is expressed in the brain. Diseases associated with NRCAM include Masa Syndrome and Autism.
