Homeobox protein NKX6.1 is a transcription factor that plays a critical role in pancreatic ? cell function and proliferation. NKX6.1 is also expressed in the nervous system during development and plays a key role in motor neuron specification. NKX6-1 (NK homeobox 1) is also known as NKX6.1 and NKX6A. NKX6.1 encodes a homeobox-containing protein that belongs to the NKX family of transcription factors with a DNA binding domain. NKX6.1 functions as an epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition suppressor, thereby suppressing the metastatic behavior of cancer cells.
