HIVa p24 is an early marker to be detected in patient blood as early as 2 weeks after HIV infection, earlier than the antibody to p24, gp41 and gp120, with the appearance of positive anti-HIV1 antibody, P24 disappears, itis known as "window time". p24 is a component of the HIV particle capsid. There are approximately 2000 molecules per virus particle. The p24 protein is derived from a precursor polyprotein of HIV, p55 that is cleaved into shorter polypeptides namely p24 (core), p17 (matrix) and p7/p9 (nucleocapsid) proteins. The p24 protein is nonglycosylated and is approximately 24 kDa size. The protein forms the core of the virus and encapsulates the viral genetic code.
Recombinant p24 protein covers full length of HIV-1 p24. It contains 231 amino acids with the molecular size 24kDa.
